AQA grade boundaries — common questions

How are AQA grade boundaries decided?
AQA sets grade boundaries after each exam series, once papers are marked. Senior examiners review student performance and use statistical evidence to set the raw mark needed for each grade, so a grade means the same standard year to year even if a paper was slightly harder or easier.
Why do AQA grade boundaries change every year?
Boundaries move because each paper's difficulty differs slightly between series. If a paper is harder, boundaries usually fall; if it is easier, they rise. That is why last year's boundaries are only a rough guide, and this calculator is labelled to the specific June 2025 series.
What is a raw mark versus a scaled mark?
A raw mark is the total you scored on the paper. For some qualifications AQA scales component marks before combining them. This calculator uses the official overall subject boundaries AQA published for June 2025, so you enter your total raw mark out of the maximum shown.
Are these boundaries official, and is Gradora linked to AQA?
The numbers are AQA's own published grade boundaries for the June 2025 series, transcribed from AQA's grade-boundaries archive. Gradora is an independent revision platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to AQA. Always confirm figures against the official AQA source.
